• I like a loud fan myself to block outside noise. This fan, running on high, was about the same noise as my box fan but I actually have become used to the fan running on medium. It still has enough sound to block outside street noise and it still puts out excellent wind velocity.

• I don't know how much noise you need, but it's an old-style hear the motor and hear the breeze fan. I would say for a fan that's much louder than the usual fans! A lot of white noise. Yes you definitely hear it, but it can be enjoyable and relaxing.
