Make sure there is at least 5 inches of clearance on each side.

Be sure that it has plenty of clearance on both sides and the back for air flow. The instruction manual basically says the same thing. Mine is out in the open and the sides get very warm / hot to the touch when the compressor is running. I would not keep it in an enclosed space.
