“Is this a crossover cable, or is a crossover cable something else? I need to connect 2 desk top computers together. will this cable work for this? also which plugs do i plug them into? do i need a router box or do i just plug the wires in computers”

Crossover cable uses differ from those of regular Ethernet cables. While crossover cables do fall under the Ethernet cable category, these specialized cables are meant to directly connect two computing devices or two switches together. This connection is forged by crossing over (a.k.a. reversing) the pin contacts. The product listed here is NOT a crossover cable.
