• Yes it will work with a cd/dvd player. I immediately plugged mine into the back of the television. Had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

• Yes, but it will not work with the very inexpensive Sony CD/VCR with a universal remote that Best Buy sells. Beware. That Sony player will not program to control Insignia, and not only that but it will hijack your on/off and volume controls on your cable and TV remotes. For years I used a Toshiba DVR/VCR that is no longer made without problems, but beware the Sony. Good news: after you disconnect it, after a few days, your infrared receiver will recover and cable and TV remotes work as they should.
