“The compressor and other mechanics to the fridge are open on the back.. The back doesn't actually go all the way down the Fridge.. It stops about 80 percent of the way down.. Is this normal?? Also, how much room should be left for airflow??”

Yes, this is normal. It has to be left open for airflow, otherwise the compressor and components will overheat.

I have it up against a wall so there's probably only an inch or two - same thing with my other one, and I have had that one in service for over 6 years and it is still working.
