Why do I only get very low volume and decreased frequency response when I connect my turntable? I've tried connecting my turntable to each of the inputs on the back of the unit, but the maximum volume level is quite low. Other components and radio work fine.

A turntable requires a phono preamp to boost the signal. If your turntable isn't a newer one with a built in preamp, that's why. You can buy a phono preamp. I bought one to use with my 80s era turntable for about $50 and it worked fine. Without a phono preamp built into the turntable or built into the receiver, the signal is too weak.

If it is an older turntable, you will need to purchase a phono preamp to amplify the sound. This receiver does not come with a built in "phono" input.

Many devices have built in pre-amps that boost levels. I suspect your turntable does not have this feature. Pre-amps are inexpensive and may resolve your levels problems.

Phono cartridge output is in the millivolt level. You need a specific RIAA pre-amplifier for RIAA phonograph standards. Normal "AUX" inputs require 3/4ths to 1 volt of electrical audio energy. The RIAA curve greatly distorts the amplitude of certain frequency components. A proper phono pre-amp reverses the frequency component amplification/distortion. A microphone pre amp is NOT the same as a phono pre amp. They will both work, but the mic pre-amp will not "undo" the frequency variations in the RIAA standard record grooves. Someone actually had to think up how all of this would work for a hundred years.

Turntables do not have an amplifier. You need a preamp to boost the signal before it gets to the receiver. I just bought the receiver and figured it out. Looking for a preamp now

Most turntables put out a low signal and need either a "phono" input or an external pre-amp to boost the signal to function over regular inputs. "Phono" inputs have the pre-amp built in. External pre-amps specifically made for turntables are available and will work with regular inputs.

A "phono" input is needed. This unit does NOT have it. I made same mistake. I returned unit to store.
