The answer about cable or other physical inputs are correct. However, the Insignia TV does not go to the last app used as explained in this answer. Answers on the internet also say that it will go to the last app, but customer service for Insignia confirmed that it does not do this for apps. It just goes to the Home Screen.

Since your cable box is likely connected via HDMI, this ensures the TV boots up directly to that input. Here’s how to do it: 1 Go to the Home Screen: Press the Home button on your Alexa Voice Remote to access the Fire TV main menu. 2 Open Settings: Scroll to the top menu bar, move right, and select “Settings” (the gear icon). 3 Select Display & Sounds: Scroll down and choose “Display & Sounds” from the options. 4 Choose Power On: In the Display & Sounds menu, find and select “Power On.” 5 Set to Last Input: Select “Last Input” instead of the default “Home” option. This tells the TV to turn on displaying whatever input (e.g., HDMI 1 for your cable box) was last used before it was powered off. Once this is set, as long as you were last watching TV through your cable box’s HDMI input, the TV will automatically start there when you turn it on. This feature is supported across Fire TV Edition devices, including the Insignia F20 Series, and has been confirmed by user feedback and Insignia support responses on platforms like Best Buy’s Q&A. It’s a simple workaround since the Fire TV OS prioritizes its home screen by default but allows this customization for live TV setups like a cable box. Note: If you switch inputs (e.g., to an app or another device) before turning off the TV, it’ll default to that last input instead. To ensure it consistently starts on the cable box, stick to that input before powering off. I hope this helps.
