Hi - My daughter had the same experience with her Audio-Technica LP-60 BT turntable and the Insignia speakers. This isn't a high end set-up but it's nice for her needs. The bluetooth connection from her laptop sounded louder than the turntable. Using the 3.5mm to RCA cable included with the turntable, the sound was good but a bit subdued. I switched to an "upgrade" cable (J&D) from Amazon and it definitely improved the volume and sound reproduction. I'm not going to spend the money for an Audioquest cable as that would cost more than the turntable and speakers combined. :) My guess is that the included pre-amp on our turntables might not be up to the task for these speakers. I've thought about trying switching to phono output and using a phono pre-amp but this set up was an entry level set up so trying to keep the costs down. Not sure what model of Sony turntable you have but if it' the Sony PSLX310BT model maybe try adjusting the gain output and / or make sure you are using the correct phono / line output also. Hope this helps for you good luck!
