A:Answer You can use it as a monitor for a security camera system. It has both HDMI and composite-video inputs. If your using the the composite output of the DVR, it probably has a BNC connector, so you may need a BNC male to an RCA female adaptor, which you should be able to buy for around $3.00 or $4.00, and a basic RCA composite video cable (typically, that's the yellow cable). Note: I'm not referring to an RCA branded cable, that's just what they're called. If your DVR has an HDMI output, you just need a basic HDMI cable to connect it to the TV. The HDMI cable will be capable of transferring an HD picture, while the RCA cable will only provide a standard-def picture. .
If you do use it as a surveillance monitor, , I would recommend that you reduce the contrast and brightness to prevent long-term burn-in on the screen. You will eventually see some burn-in, but it will take a long time before you'll notice. However, you could probably buy four of these for the price of one commercial-grade 32" monitor intended for monitoring surveillance cameras. Running the TV 24 hours a day will shorten its life somewhat, but it should still last for a few years. Keep in mind that it is only a 720P TV, so it won't be quite as clear as a 1080P TV.
