“Overall, it is a great mini frig/freezer. My concern is the back side of the freezer which is exposed instead of covered. The offgasing odors after 5 days are not pleasant. Why is there no cover? Please advise and thanks.”

Its normal, this is to allow proper airflow to the compressor. The wires you see connect the compressor to the unit. Do not cover it & leave 5 inches away from wall for proper ventilation. Mary II Insignia Products II Please visit https://www.insigniaproducts.com/
