Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This 43" 1080p Insignia TV model # NS-43D420NA18 has DTS sound just like the other Insignia TVs I have owned--even in the 24", 32", and 40" sizes! Please forgive the formality presented, herein, but I offer the following to best answer your question. DTS ("commonly" referred to as "Dedicated To Sound") is a series of multichannel audio technologies owned by Xperi Corporation (formerly known as Digital Theater Systems, Inc.). According to what I've read, Xperi Corporation is an American company specializing in "digital surround sound" formats used for both commercial/theatrical and consumer grade applications. Indication is made that DTS uses less compression in the encoding process than its Dolby competitor and as a result, when decoded, many feel that DTS provides a better result on the listening end. As an aside, I have a 2017 model 32" Insignia TV (first made in the year 2016) with DTS that has a speaker output of five (5) watts and sitting from about seven (7) feet away I can have the volume set at around 70 out of 100 and it is adequate, whereas, I have a 40" Insignia TV with a ten (10) watt speaker output and when the volume is set between 25 and 40 out of 100 (depending on the TV station/broadcast) that is adequate. However, with this 43" 1080p Insignia TV model # NS-43D420NA18 when the volume is set at 20 the volume from the same distance is more than adequate--again, depending on the broadcast source. Yes, in answer to your question, this 43" Insignia model TV's speakers are eight (8) watts "each!" As an aside, it has been my experience that when you connect a laptop to this and other Insignia TVs and set the "computer's" volume at 100 constant, it increases the max volume of the television. I don't know if this information is just my experience or across the board.
