That is true about paying for quality. I was cautioned about this TV because they said the parts are sourced from various facilities so the 'quality' cannot be guaranteed. Some quit after 2 years, some live on. However, TVs evolve quickly and your $1800 85" a few years ago is now much cheaper. My unit has excellent picture quality which surprised me, as I thought as you do. To overcome the worry of the TV breaking down after 2 years, I purchased a 5-yr warranty at time of sale, which will probably outlast the TV, so I will get another under warranty. The warranty cost me $130 for 5 yrs. I got the TV on a Black Friday deal for $550. Go figure, eh? That long warranty removes any worries I may have and any hesitancy to buy it. It's great if you are a sports fan and watch games. I use mine primarily as my laptop's monitor, plugged into the TV via HDMI cable and then use a wireless keyboard and mouse, and sit 7 feet away; TV viewing is simply a bonus, but the picture quality is fine.
