Yes you can. The nice thing is that the green number lighting is on a black screen so it is visible in all lighting conditions.

It is a clock so it is always supposed to be lite & show the time. U can lower the the illumination by pressing the SNOOZE/dimmer bar. If that is not you're objective, then turn it away or cover it with a wash cloth. :-)
