“Does this need the power plug to work or can it use power from the source. I'm trying to plug my Roku to my projector but the sound doesnt travel because I am using a hdmi to VGA. Want to separate the sound & send to speaker but only have 3 power outlets”

I think you have to plug into an outlet but not 100% sure.............. I would suggest that if you do not have enough outlets that you buy a power surge strip for the extra outlets needed. With my set up I have audio extractor HDMI going to my TV and optical cable from audio extractor straight to my BOSE system which does not have an HDMI input. This set up allows me to use my BOSE system which is an older system. If you plug into the input your ROKU stick, you can send the video to your projector via HDMI and split out the sound from audio extractor to your speakers via "Optical cable"................ It gives you "Digital Sound" which is very crisp. Good luck!
