“Are mishaps with application highly likely with non professional application? Although instructions are included I've yet to try this product and would like to know the typical visual results of at home application if at all possible.”

It is absolutely impossible to have any mishaps with this product. Once you buff with the microfiber cloth included it just looks like a regular screen.
