• Take it back. Sounds like the volume button is stuck in the "+" position. At peak volume you will hear the dialtone sound. Or listen to it at a lower volume.

• The busy signal comes on when you are trying to turn up the volume, but it is as high as it goes. It also does this when the battery is running low.
