“Ok, connection to the dot is as a Bluetooth speaker. It keeps cutting out about every 3 seconds and then completely drops. How can this be fixed or is it defective. Distance between the units is 2 to 4 feet, so that should not be the problem”

Had the same problem with an Amazon Dot. Check that your WiFi is not using the 5G signal, it seems to cause interference with the Bluetooth signal.
