Taking Longer than expected should mean just that. When I first installed mine I received the same message, I just let it be and it completed the update. Possibly reboot and see if the same message appears, if your far from your router, move it closer for a better Wi-Fi connection, complete the update and move it where you want it.

Once the device is set up and working the proximity doesn't need to be as close.
