It seems to work with some of the wii nes games but not all. It seems to work fine with punch out and super marios bros 2 but it does not work for the first super mario bros which is a bummer.

It works perfect on the Wii U menu and VC games. Going into the Wii U regular Wii menu it didn't work on all the VC games

Nope, only the controllers for this exact unit will work. It's a flashback to late 80s and early 90s. No cartridge slot, either, just the pre-loaded original NES games. Works great though.
