Spot on, on all accounts. Response is perfect and feels like the original. It's also so close in style with the plastic being slightly paler and enough difference to avoid copyright issues.

I feel this is superior to the controller that came with the unit. Our original controller had legitimate A button issues. It just wasn't responsive. So I went looking for a replacement controller and found this. It's even better. Completely responsive. It feels a little different: more solid, if you will. I do miss the original coloring. However, it's worth the sacrifice for an A button that works. The cord on this is longer than the original controller cord. I still bought extensions and am happy with how the controller and extension work together. No issues with that connection.

To me, the controllers felt identical to the originals. I have to try and remember back to the early 90's but I don't think they really changed them. Other than the connection to the system.
