The channel will change in concert with the cable box.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The remote extender (upstairs in your description) only mirror's what the source extender (connected to the cable box and tv downstairs) is playing. There is an infrared sensor that can extend the command from the handheld remote control (upstairs) to the source (downstairs), yes. However, both upstairs and downstairs tv's will show identical programs through this extender.
