In my opinion the iPhone app is unnecessary for this product as it requires more tweaking by iRobot to be truly efficient and helpful. It definitely helps with initial setup but once you’ve set days and times to clean... it just goes and does it’s thing. Main advantage of the app is if you hear your Roomba starting up downstairs and everyone is still in bed, you can switch it off remotely. Other advantages are; you can locate your device using the app if it’s stuck somewhere, and the app will tell you if the bin is full (however you have to log into the app to see this, it doesn’’t alert you which kinda defeats the purpose). You don’t have to move the Roomba from room to room unless the door is closed. For open plan areas, it will manoeuvre around itself. This is a pain actually as the middle level on my house is all open plan and the kitchen is obviously the area that most needs vacuuming, however the Roomba will start there and then just leave and end up stuck in the Powder Room next door having closed the door on itself! It’s funny rather than annoying, but if you are a total clean freak, this would cause anxiety. My biggest complaint with this Roomba is it doesn’t come with 2 electronic tower devices to square off an area for cleaning, my previous old Roomba came with these and they actually work with my new Roomba... whereas my old Roomba would knock them over and just head out into the area I’d blocked off. When your recharging station is left plugged in at all times, the Roomba will return to dock and recharge, so long as it doesn’t get stuck under something or behind a closed door. Make sure you lift everything off the floor and remove power cables hanging down including phone chargers etc. Roomba will just suck them up, shred bits off and then drag it around the house, or pull something down off a shelf that’s plugged in. If you have a pet that isn’t fully toilet trained or has accidents, beware... I have heard the stories of poop being dragged around the house. Thankfully I have no first hand experience with this so far. Empty the bin every day on your Roomba or it’s just driving around the house full and doing nothing. I can’t wait for self emptying version, Shark are advertising one right now so Roomba probably isn’t far behind. Enjoy your Roomba, I don’t know how I lived without one of these before!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can just turn it on manually and it will clean as long as charged. The phone just allows you to control it without being home. Roomba will move around the house on its own and return to home base when battery is low.
