Can’t speak for the other models but yes the e5 has sensors to keep it from going over stairs. We tested it out. Works great.

I have used it to clean the 2nd floor, which features a fairly narrow wood floor walkway with stairs on either side. And yes I was nervous at first - I even stayed to catch it when it approached the stairs but it stopped right at the edge and continued onwards. I even put the dock along a wall a maybe 8 feet from the edge of the stairs. No issues. It vacuumed that walkway and even my master bedroom and managed to re-dock without falling down the stairs. I have read some robots may have trouble if the floor is black - but not sure that is roomba or another brand.
