long answer is that the design of the earbuds relegated them to either dual use or right side only use. The left earbud requires the right earbud in order to function, there is no independent processing capability in the left bud, its mostly in the right. Short answer is, no. I'm pretty sure there's no firmware update to fix a lack of hardware.
