“When the buds are in the charging case, the case light goes green for a bit and then goes off. Does that mean that the buds are charging and all is ok. Charger is not connected to the outlet/USB at this stage, the app shows its battery charge at 96%.”

Yes, the case is the battery charger for the ear buds. Plugging case into USB charges the case and the earbuds at the same time

Leave the lid open, and plug it into a power source using the supplied USB cable and the power supply or a wall charger with a standard voltage of 5v +- 0.25v. (Note: It is not recommended to charge the earbuds/case using a power supply with a higher voltage) Once you see the case battery level LED indication light up near the port after 3 to 5 sec, please close the lid.
