“The back of the subwoofer lights up indicating that it’s on but there is no connection to it. I keep unplugging the two and waiting for the automatic connection and still nothing.”

The back light indicates it's in a standby mode. Just play the music or turn the TV on and the sound will merge between the soundbar and subwoofer. It's automatically linked.
