You can do either, but we prefer to have it lay flat since there are passive radiators on each side and having it standing can affect the sound quality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think it's meant to lay flat. There's a small sturdy squared "foot" area that it stands on very securely. It won't roll around like a flip speaker can, so it feels more steady and sturdy to me. I've never tried standing it on end, since that would block a speaker.
