I doubt it would protect your hearing alone with over ear protection as long as you have the outer protection unobstructed to maximize its protective value. Regular earplugs is still the primary recommendation for this activity. Because everyone has different sized cavities there will likely not be enough protection for all persons. Best practice is to use regular earplugs the compliment your ears and grant the best protection. This is my opinion not endorsed by any company. I am very protective of my hearing and I would not wear these to a firing range for two reasons. 1- They could distract you and cause you to become emotional or enthusiastic and potentially cause an accident. 2- Proper protective gear is always the correct course.
