“Does the earbud have to be a certain distance away from the other to work? I have an old pair of Jabra elite 65 and the left one has to be a certain distance away from the other to work so unless you were exactly a headspace away you could not share buds”

It is possible to share earbuds but the Icons are not designed for such use. Earbuds that support dual connect would be a pair better suited for this situation. -JLab Audio
