If you are using them in a large room, then yes. Smaller rooms may not need a sub.

Not really. The bass is enough for the small rooms. You may add subwoofer if you like heavy bass.

They don't necessarily require it but adding a subwoofer would definitely compliment this pair of speakers and provide a more well rounded sound.
