“I understand that Kuerig K-Cup Pod Coffee Makers have an internal water reservoir. I've seen YouTube videos showing mold buildup inside these reservoirs that even cleaning or descaling does not remove. Do newer models fix this?”

I clean it with a third of a cup of white vinegar and run the reservoir through from full to empty 3 times.

No, the build up comes from mineral deposits found in hard water. You would need to descale if the product is used in an area which has hard water.
