• I believe it is supposed to auto off.. but frankly if it does auto off, I havent noticed it turn off. After everyone gets coffee and are having breakfast already… i often notice it still on, so i turn it off. I havent seen a descale light. Just a strong coffee light

• You can set it to either shut off automatically or manually.It has 3 small indicator lights that tell you when to descale,add water,or whether or not you have auto off set.I hope this helps.
