Yes, it's recommended to get a decent amplifier for these speakers. I learned the hard way, a stock radio with out much power could make these speakers sound distorted.

I’ve personally used Rockford Fosgate Amps with larger Kicker or Redline speakers The wattage on amplifiers in my opinion , does not have to be exact matching of speakers max wattage. Moreover , the more wattage amplifier and of a brand name , the more expensive. It is better sound quality to have correct wattage max rated to amp , but keep in mind when you go over max rated speakers will blow !
