We went from a Whirlpool 20.0 cf side by side to this KitchenAid model and it fits perfectly. Our opening has a height of 71 3/4 inch, and this just fits in with about 1/4 inch clearance that will allow cabinet above to open. Last fridge was about 3 1/2 inches shorter and may be reason for extra cf. No problem with width and depth, as it was similar dimensions to old fridge. Would say if your opening is 40" wide and 27" to 29" deep, then should be fine. But double check measurements to make sure it will fit.
