“Is there a specific external monitor you could recommend? If I got something that was 144hz, 1920x2080, 400nits, 99% rgb would i be able to use it at those specs or would they be downgraded? Does it have to have gsync?”

use 240hz if you want nothing to do with laptop screen or the laptop has gtx 1660ti can handle it
