Instructions are included and are quite clear on how to change the venting from the top (the default way the unit is shipped) to the back. Venting to the outside is preferred and homes are often equipped with either top through a cabinet and ceiling, or back wall venting. The unit can also be vented into the kitchen, but in my mind this rather defeats the purpose of venting. Ours is installed over a gas range and works very well, with three fan speeds. The most difficult part of converting to back wall from top venting is removing the “cutouts” on the back of the unit. Instructions state to use tin snips to carefully cut the small tabs holding the back vent plates in place without bending or damaging the back panel. The holes the installer is instructed to use for the tin snips are far too small for most tin snip blades.
