The ice is frozen in the Craft Ice cube maker and won't release and now the bin just fills with water and freezes. Is there a fix? Have tried turning it off and on. null

Turn off the ice maker for a couple of days. After the 2 days, remove the ice bucket, turn on the ice maker and push the reset button(little square button up and under the front panel of the ice maker). You may need the assistance of small mirror or use your cell phone and reverse the view so you can see the reset button. When you push the button, it will activate the "dumping mode" and the balls of ice will be hanging from the silicone molds they are stuck to. Grab them quickly before the mechanism closes again. You will probably have three ice balls stuck together. After removal, the water will fill the molds as usual. This will allow the ice to start forming as normal. Wait 24-36 hours for the next batch to cycle through. This overflow situation has happen to me twice in the past, and this is how I fixed it.

I am having a similar issue with my craft icemaker on a new fridge installed 7 months ago. I opened the drawer to find frozen ice in the craft ice tray (along with 3 ice balls) and the water had run over in to the lower tray and frozen all my items together in one large mass. Not thrilled with this brand as of yet. I also found that my fridge doesn't show up as registered and can't get it to update. I finally gave up and turned off the craft ice maker. I have to look into a service call next.

There might be ice stuck in the ice molds. This happened to us after someone didn’t close the freezer completely and the ice melted inside the craft ice mechanism. I opened the freezer drawer, placed a large towel behind the bins at the bottom of the fridge to collect any water spilled. Then I used a turkey baster to spray hot water over the upper part molds, and with my hand I removed any ice that had formed around them and on the edges of the tray. Then pushed the reset button to get the mechanism that dumps the ice to activate. (It is located below the front panel of the icemaker, shaped like a square, you might need a mirror or a phone camera to locate it). and last with a wooden spoon I pushed on the molds to release the stuck ice. Do not use a metal or a sharp object as it can damage the silicone molds. You might need to repeat the proces several times. It took me four attempts to achieve. After the ice released I pushed the reset button to open the tray and ran my hand (washed it first) around and inside the trays to make sure there was no ice stuck there, then wiped them with a towel. Pressed the reset button once more to make sure the tray was closed. Turned it off and back on to make sure it was dispensing, cleaned the mess and the next evening there was round ice again in my tray. Took a while, but worked!

Mine sounds like a jack hammer. It appears that the mechanism is sticking to the ice and not opening. I cleared it out and put a little olive oil on the ball mold. Helps for a little while but it comes back. Doesn’t seem to be a well thought out mechanism . Shouldn’t be happening on a $3500 fridge. I don’t know the solution , lg doesn’t seem to know the solution but not happy with it

Ours just started doing this too. The balls don’t eject when it cycles then it fills with water so we get a tray of flat ice with a few ice balls frozen in. Service call I guess. Really concerned this is going to be a common issue.

This appears to be a common issue. We have had LG replace our craft ice maker 3 times now, and it started doing it again. It sounds like a jackhammer when trying to eject the ice. it seems the Craft ice maker went to market without proper QA testing.

Happening to mine since day 1.. neither Ice maker works properly. Should not have to thaw out every week - don’t know what’s wrong with the regular ice maker… Would not have spent $6,000 on appliances -and two ice makers - and a $700 pump system to have the necessary water pressure - if I knew I was going to have to keep buying bags of ice. Will never purchase LG again

It is a known problem. LG technicians have admitted it and LG doesn't know how to fix it.
the last one they installed (4th) didn't eject the balls from the start.
I believe it was not a new one due to the way it was packaged.
I have contacted the LG "Ask the President" team and they won't respond to on-line requests or texts directly to team members.
Will try calling customer support, hopefully they will be more responsive group.

Remove the Ice Ball Tray. Clean up any ice laying around from the water spilling over. Push the reset button located under the lower front center of the ice maker. Wait for the three ice balls to be exposed. Gently get them off the tray before the tray closes back. Clean up any additional ice that has dropped. Put the tray back in and you are done. In the future make sure your door gets closed all the way so the ice maker doesn't freeze.

My solution is cleaning the silicone ice molds. Depending on your water, the ice molds build up mineral deposits at different rates of speed. If you feel the mold, it is no longer smooth, so the ice sticks. I cleaned the silicone molds with a vinegar and hot water solution. Wiping and soaking with a cloth until  I could feel the silicone was clean and slippery again. No, it was not easy but my problem took 1 1/2 years to happen. Everything needs a deep cleaning once in a while. To me the time spent is worth the beautiful ice. Hope this helps.

I had this issue as well.  LG sent a service person who recommended replacing the entire Ice Maker system.  They did that and it worked for a few months then it happened again.  Fingers crossed they can send someone again despite me now being out of warranty.

I had the same issue. Fridge 4 weeks old. Solution is to repeatedly do the test function. The water that drips into your catch bowl will eventually thaw enough that I could use a fork to pop out the over frozen cubes. Got the 3 junk ice balls out after 6 test runs. Hoping it will work now. Make sure to put a small lasagna pan or something shallow to catch the test water.

Craft Ice Balls have "bridged" together.  You will need to cycle (reset) the ice maker and physically grab and remove the ice.

Not a solution but I have the same problem.  I took it apart and the rubber has a lot of calcium build up which I think is what is making the ice stick to the silicone cup.

Our Craft Ice got stuck too. I turned off the icemaker, pulled out the top drawer so I could access the stuck balls better. I used my hair blow dryer to melt the ice a bit first. Then I held down the reset button to make the mold tip. The first time I couldn't wiggle the ice loose, so I used the blow dryer a couple of minutes longer and tried again. This time, I used a spoon to loosen the balls and out they popped. Wishing LG would fix this problem because it seems that it happens a lot.

same thing for us after 2 mos past warranty.  However, i found 3/4 of a plastic ring that came out attached to frozen ball.  after melting I can see it may have broken and was the actual nipple that forms the ice so as not to allow the water to just fall into the tray like all of us have experienced.

That said I have no resolution as I'm not paying to fix it on this expensive fridge.   Maybe they'll see this comment and realize a work around.  I bet everyone's plastic piece has broken like mine.  I just happened to get lucky and see it on a craft ice ball.

I've had the unit for less than 1.5 years.  The craft ice just quit.  I had a technician out and he said it was a known issue according to LG and should be fully covered.  I called LG's customer service line (obviously overseas) and was told it was out of the 1 year warranty.  Therefore, they would not cover it.  My local appliance store is trying to get a workaround.  I'm not impressed with this unit for the price I paid.

My freezer door was left ajar and the craft ice froze in and across the molds. When the ice was supposed to drop it didn't and then the water fills the tray and freezes. I tried the reset button a few times and tried to get the ice balls out with no luck and the refill water went into a shallow pyrex baking dish I put in instead of the plastic tray. Next I used a hair dryer in the area while in reset mode so the ice was exposed.They all popped out and two of them were connected while the other one was larger than the mold. I recycled the reset and heard the water filling the molds with no water observed in the pyrex dish. I'm hoping to see some ice in the next couple of days.

When this happened to mine, I pointed a hair dryer at the three partially made ice balls for about 5 minutes to soften them. Then I pressed the reset button behind the front panel which dumped them into the tray.
I've had to do this three times in the 2 years since we installed it.

We had similar concerns. I’ll list them below, as well as our fix.

Issue:
- Craft ice balls had frozen into a solid mass within the bin
- Craft Ice balls we malformed, and some were smaller than others

Fix:
- Brought the refrigerator onto Wi-Fi 
- Downloaded the LG app and added the fridge (had to try several times before it worked)
- Once added to the app, we waited until the fridge’s firmware finished auto-updating
- We turned off all Energy Star and ‘energy saver’ services for the fridge in the app. Note: we strive for a small carbon footprint but live in the desert, so our coolers must run full-on 24/7. Further, this is the first appliance we’ve owned that had such ‘saver’ services enabled by default. I like the idea in theory, but LG should allow for an opt-in and not opt-out since, in our case, those enabled services may have caused what looked like a mechanical failure.
- We reduced the number of items stored in the freezer, especially the top shelf near the bin. 
- We dumped all the ice balls and cleaned the bin.

With the craft ice maker, if I have too many things in the freezer the craft ice maker doesn't seem to freeze appropriately.  So you may need to remove some of the things in the freezer. It works perfectly as long as I do that.

Secondly,  the ice maker in the door occasionally sticks.  You have to remove the entire tray in the door and break it up.  That happens once every 2-3 months.

I do agree that 3500 bucks is waaaaay too much for these issues.

I had the craft maker replaced when it was under warranty.  It took me about three months from initial complaint to get the repair done.  The replaced the craft ice maker and I was told at the time of the repair, the new part was warranteed for a year.  Within 6 months same problem.  Ice would get stuck, loud banging noise.  Have now spent 4 months, talked to numerous supervisors, to be redirected that it is no longer covered.  IMHO, don’t buy LG appliances.  Their customer service is garbage. This is a known defect on the part.  Good news is you can buy a new craft ice maker for about 160 bucks and its an easy install.

I also had the same problem with the craft ice maker. 3 balls were stuck in the silicone tray and when it cycles it builds up a 3 ball ice block then the water can't fill the silicone tray and overflows to the catch basin. This creates a huge block of ice with all your all ready formed ice balls. I took out the shelf to get better access to the bottom of the maker and hit the test button on the left under side. This cycles the maker and you can grab the block and pull it out from the silicone. It took several attempts as you get only a few seconds and you have to release all three balls. Each test cycle will dump water which seem to aid me in getting them out. Make sure to have a container under it to collect water. Once I did this all was normal and we had craft ice again in a day or so.

Unfortunately there may be a problem with the mechanism releasing the ice spheres. Ours started making ice within 36 hours and is filling up the tray without any obstruction or leaking. If the ice maker and water dispenser is working well it may be intrinsic with the refrigerator. Hope this helps.
