“The box came with a power cord that connects to the wall outlet and an HDMI cord. Both are plugged in but the monitor won't turn on. Is there anything else needed to get the monitor to turn on? Trying to determine if this is faulty.”

One make sure the outlet has power. Two there is a little button on the bottom of the screen press it and make sure you are on the right input. I had to change mine when I got it because it was defaulted to hdmi 2

Connect the monitor to a different computer temporarily. If it works, your problem is with the first computer.
