I have been using block soap shaved/grated down which makes two gallons for about $2. I use 1 cup per wash. All come out clean but then I do not get dirty anyway, so it depends where you live say in a city with lots of cars or rural and job type. I found the recipe on YouTube for How to make your own detergent. Supermarket detergents are too expensive for me.
