There are 9" from the heating element to the bottom rack. Note: You can put the top rack in the bottom track and get about another inch if need more space. The (normal) bottom rack has tracks so it can slide out for easier access the top rack does not giving you more room not taken up by the built in track of the bottom rack. Hope that helps.

The total height of the lower oven measures 13 inches. From the bottom rack to the top of the oven wall; 10 inches. Second from bottom rack to top wall measures 9 inches. Hopes this helps.
