OLED panels do not use a backlight as a light source, therefore there is no dimming technology. Instead, each individual pixel emits its own light, varied in intensity, to produce the picture. ^Daphane

Instead, each individual pixil emits its own light, varied in intensity, to produce the picture. This allows for an incredible contrast ratio which surpasses any other "dimming" technology. We watch many Sci-fi, action, horror, dark movies and the picture is amazing. We keep our viewing area dimly lit for a theatre like experience, but the display still performs very well in daylight. For more information, I recommend an online search for "OLED display" and check out some of the articles.
