“This is called ‘countertop microwave’ but can i put it in the ‘cubby’ above my oven? My old microwave was in there but since this is called ‘countertop’ I wasn’t sure if I could put this one in there?”

It should be able to use in your "cubby". It had a trim kit designed just for that purpose. Item SKU 6241228 at bestbuy.com.
