“Why doesn't this just play a disc when inserted? There seems to be no chapters to pick from or an time stamps to be able to find where a movie left off. This is the worst player I have ever owned.”

When purchasing this unit I asked questions important to me of salesperson. I wanted a basic machine at a basic price. I got it.
