• oops I forgot about the usb port on the front panel. I have a portable drive with half a terabyte of space, and it plays my music and videos and pictures on it just fine.

• Yes, both MP4 and AVI files are able to be played via USB. Up to a 1 TB flash drive can be used with this Blu-ray player. ^CP
