- Answer You'll need appropriate software (Nero, for example or others), but it will play and burn a DVD in a few minutes

- Answer Your wording of the question doesn't make sense to me. It's a DVD drive so yes it will play aDVD/CDand if that is a software DVD it will play it so that you can install software. However, when you say upload purchased software, I don't know what you mean. There is no internal storage to write to, so it's not like a USB or something.
