“Cannot find Verizon FiOS 5 GHz WAP during setup I have a Verizon FiOS Quantum router. It is dual band. I have 25 wifi devices connected to it: 5 are connected at 5GHz and the rest are connected at 2.4GHz. The WiFi network discovery of the RE6500 will successfully find the 2.4GHz WAP, but it never finds the 5 GHz WAP. I have tried 3 distances from 8 - 40 feet. I have powered cycled the FiOS Quantum twice. The RE6500 will discover both bands of my neighbor - but it will never discover the 5 GHz WAP of the FiOS Quantum. Note - both of my WAPs have the same SSID - is that a problem (one is on 2.4 and the other is on 5, but the SSIDs are the same)? I also have tried manually entering the SSID/WPA2 key - this works for 2.4 but never 5GHz.”

The SSID and password are the same for 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Your devices will jump on whichever connection they can. The frequency your device connects to will depend on what each device supports.

Once you're done setting a different SSID, try to set it up again then check if it can now detect the 5 GHz. You may follow the instructions on this link: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=140738. You can also use the Spot Finder feature of the router as it will help you find a perfect spot on where you can place your extender.
