Doesn't work when you set up security

Setting up the range extender is no problem. Plug it in, click on Linksys Extender Setup when you see it in your network. My DVD player (what I use to watch Netflix) connected no problem and signal strength improved from 20% to 80%. I then found out that if you connect to Wifi this way, it's not a secure connection. That's when the trouble started. Connected the RE6500 to my computer to set up the Wifi protected access. Entered my router passcode. Checked my DVD player, and signal strength dropped back to 20%. Spent a lot of time on my own trying to see if I set it up incorrectly. Finally gave up and called customer support. They tell me that the extender is on WPA2-Personal. I'm not a techie. This apparently means that the extender sends out a signal on a secure mode under this protocol. Customer support says my DVD player is probably not compatible with this and to check the DVD firmware. I checked the settings on my DVD player--it has WPA and WPA2 security protocol. In a nutshell, if you want secure Wifi access, the RE6500 may not be compatible with your device. Don't know why it should be that difficult. Returning this thing tomorrow.

We have a large home (5000 sq ft) and I'm running the WRT1900AC downstairs and the RE6500 upstairs. There is not a dead spot in the house any longer. I have Comcast 100/20 internet and I can easily pull 80/20 in any room of the house over wifi now. The only issue I did seem to encounter was trying to extend both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands at the same time. When I did that, I would notice my speed would drop to about 10-25 downstream randomly, even when the device I was using was only connected to the 5 Ghz band. After I reset the RE6500 and only extended the 5 Ghz band, I haven't had that issue again, runs like a champ now. That is the only thing keeping this from a 5 star review, as the kids still do have 2.4 ghz devices so it would have been nice to extend both 2.4 and 5 ghz bands all the time, but with the WRT1900AC, those devices still get plenty of juice!!!

Purchased extender had insufficient setup instruction. Four calls with Tech Support resulted in Linksys determining product was defective. Lengthy exchange program. Original purchase was September 2nd. It is October 15th and newly arrived replacement (shipping original back on own dime) required duplicate credit card charge, and couldn't reach appropriate tech support for morning support to setup. After 6 weeks am down twice the cost of the unit and no functioning extender.

After reading the positive reviews I decided to buy this extender to improve wifi strength in remote areas of my house. After spending an hour and trying all different things I could not get the extender to connect. Spent almost two hours on the phone with Linksys technical support. No success. They told me that I would have to call AT&T and change the channel number on my AT&T router and call them back. I found out how to change the channel and called back. Spent another hour on the phone with another technician only to be told that they know they have a defect they need to address and that a higher level customer service expert would call me back with a fix. Almost 24 hours later I have not heard back from Linksys. I am returning the unit back to Best Buy with disappointment.

The unit seemed pretty simple to install but it kept having conflicts with my AT&T router. It is now sitting in the same box it was purchased in a month ago. As soon as the unit gets removed from my home network everything starts working properly again. Very Disappointed

I purchased this to work with the Linksys WRT1900AC router and it works to strengthen and replicate the service very smoothly. Very easy to setup, just type in the web address and it's done!

This was very easy to set up, and it turned on. I assumed that meant it was working..... however, I noticed absolutely NO improvement in the signal range of my WiFi network. I tried moving this around the house to see if I could get any improvement. However, the dead spots in the hous were still dead spots. I am going to return this as soon as possible.
