Hello! Yes, you have the option of selecting which frequency band to extend.

Please try again later.On my Macbook I can see the original signal at both 2.4 and 5GHz(which is what I had before installing the device), and the two signals from the extender (they are labeled xxx_Ext, where xxx is your WiFi name). I can select any one of those four, and sometimes do to refresh the connection. I can't remember exactly, but I think when you set it up you can ignore the 5 GHz. Hope that helps.
