I have it in the basement and half my 3rd floor has pretty terrible coverage. A lot depends on your house layout, I would say its worth trying out, my house is just wierd so it may work out great for you.

Probably not. I had to use a range extender to get the signal up to the top floor of my house.

I don’t have any problem with mine reaching all areas of my home. I even get signal to the end of the block, 3 houses away.

It should. I'm set up I'm the basement and it carries a strong signal upstairs and outside. To be sure you could set up on the ground floor.
