No, the first node needs an Ethernet connection to your modem/router. The other nodes are wireless, they just need an electrical outlet.

There will be only 1 node that is connected to the modem. You can plug devices into the other nodes (not connected to the modem) using a Cat5/6 cable to provide LAN connectivity for devices without WiFi capabilities.

The remaining nodes are connected wirelessly and do not need any cables other than an A/C power outlet.
